Demonstration Of
The Powerlessness
Of The Golden Calf
The Burning And Drinking Of The Golden Calf
And Moses said to Aaron, “What did this
people do to you that you have brought a great sin upon them?” And Aaron said,
“Let not the anger of my lord burn hot; you know the people,
that they are set on evil. For they said to me, ‘Make us gods, who shall
go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of
Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ And I said to them, ‘Let any who
have gold take it off’; so they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire,
and there came out this calf.”
And he took the calf which they had
made, and burnt it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it upon
the water, and made the people of Israel drink it.
I saw the golden calf which was moulded, myself broke it, crushed it, and burnt it. I sprayed the ashes into water and gave the Israelites to drink.
Do you know the reason why I burnt he idol, golden calf, sprayed the ashes into water and gave the Israelites to drink?
I did so to show the Israelites that there was no power in the idol – as a proof that the idol is not a god, and therefore, should not be worshipped. For the Israelites to know that if there were power in the idol, the moment they drink it, they would die. Since the power did not kill them, they knew that he idol was powerless. As they drank it and it went out of their body – in the forms of faeces and urine – they knew that there was no power in it. It was vanity. For them to know that the idol is useless and worthless, and that there is no salvation in it. But many did not understand what I did. Some were even there, murmuring, making various bad comments, saying that myself, Holy Moses, did not do the right thing. But myself, God put on me the garment of patience, with word I was relating with the Israelites. Myself, Holy Moses, did not listen to them. I did not come to do their will but to do the will of God.
